Gail Rubin, CT, is a pioneering death educator who uses humor, film clips and outside-the-box activities to teach about end-of-life topics. The Association for Death Education and Counseling recognized her outstanding work with their 2024 Community Educator Award. She’s also known for her motto: Talking about sex won’t make you pregnant, talking about funerals won’t make you dead.
She's a Certified Thanatologist (a fancy name for a death educator), an informed advocate for pre-need planning, a Certified Funeral Celebrant, host of the Doyenne of Death podcast, the Mortality Movies TV series, and the Albuquerque Death Café. She is also the coordinator of the Before I Die New Mexico Festival and holds Mortality Movie Nights at a local funeral home.
An award-winning speaker, she "knocked 'em dead" at TEDxABQ in 2015 with her talk, A Good Goodbye. She holds an Umbrella License from the Motion Picture Licensing Corporation to use films and television programs in her talks.
